Lauragh National School, Killarney, Co. Kerry participated in a small pilot programme in 2013. Lauragh is a two teacher school, while working on the LEAF programme, they involved everyone in the school. A number of students visited Knockreer House and learned how to identify the trees from the winter buds and listened to the sap rising through the tree trunks using stetescopes. Back at school, they set up a notice board to display their LEAF projects and informed everyone about the importance of trees and the various products that are made from trees. The students also visited Derreen woodlands as part of their Day of Action. While at the woodland they took photos and sketched the various trees the came across. The school thoroughly enjoyed working on the programme and learned lots of interesting things about trees.
