Shrone National School, Rathmore, Co. Kerry participated in a small pilot programme in 2013. The senior classes from 3rd up participated in the LEAF programme. The students learned about CO2 and the photosynthesis process. They linked up with their Biodiversity Theme of the Green-Schools programme and studied the various species found on trees and how they can be a rich habitat or ‘home’ for lots of different species. They created their own new habitat by planting a beech tree on the school grounds. The students used a LEAF notice board to display their art work and the various forest related projects they worked on during the course of the school year.
